The AABS green initiative aims to help scaling up business schools capacity to manage a just transition toward a sustainable future.It is designed to involve all stakeholders—faculties, staff, students. Through this program, Business schools will seek to better equip our future leaders so they understand the importance, challenges and opportunities of a transition to greener economies.
Our Mission
To create a sustainable campus culture and environment, to improve outreach and engagement on sustainability issues. We want a responsible, healthy, and prosperous community in which individuals are committed to caring for and valuing the environment, for the short and long-term benefit of the continent.
What does the AABS Green Initiative aim to achieve?
This program aims to provide means and ways to foster environmental awareness in Business schools in a way that links to everyday activities and study, and ties in with the operational requirements of a complex multi-use facility.
It aims to:
- Empower students and staff to create a more vibrant campus community.
- Involve a wider variety of the campus community in environmental decision-making.
- Improve learning on campus through development of student’s confidence and sense of citizenship through participation, and transferable skills, research
- Make the case for circular economy models and initiatives
- Supply fresh ideas for research topics, final year projects and events within the institution.
- Link with other third level institutions in Africa and internationally.
- Improve the campus environmental performance, reduce environmental risks and impacts, and achieve financial savings.
- Become a community leader and provide guidance to involve local stakeholders.
- Provide positive image for the institutions
Steps to achieving this:
1- Mindful Awareness:
Promote awareness of environmental issues and the available solutions through discussions and sharing of information.
Foster a change in attitudes and behavior, making sustainability a key consideration in every person’s consumption decisions.
2- Empowered Ownership
Empower people by informing them on the ways that each person can make a difference.
Encourage involvement, accountability, and ultimately, ownership amongst individuals through grassroots projects.
3- Scalable Impact
Propagate and replicate impactful projects while incorporating the participation of stakeholders.
Enable and assist in the proliferation and commercialization of sustainable business models, technologies and platforms.
